Day 1: Hanoi – Son La (L/D)
Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi at 8.00AM. Drive on a scenic route to Son La via Hoa Binh with a sightseeing tour en route: Vietnam’s biggest hydro power station, peaceful Mai Chau valley with green rice paddy fields, Moc Chau Plateau with endless plumb trees and tea plants, etc. Have lunch at a local restaurant on the way. Upon arrival in Son La, check in at your hotel and relax. Overnight in Son La.
Day 2: Son La – Tuan Giao – Dien Bien (B/L/D)
After breakfast, quick visit to relic of Son La Prison built by the French in 1908 to detain the Vietnamese revolutionists in 1930-1945. Pass by beautiful villages of Thai people. Cross over the majestic Pha Din Pass to reach Dien Bien Phu, the site of the decisive battle in Vietnam’s struggle for independence in 1954. Visit A1 Hill, Museum of Dien Bien Phu Victory & General De Castries’s Command Bunker. Overnight at a hotel in Dien Bien Phu.
Day 3: Dien Bien – Phong Tho – Tam Duong – Sapa (B/L/D)
After breakfast, continue driving via Lai Chau on a winding road on the mountain side. See villages of Thai, Tay, Nung and H’mong tribes. Encounter foreign-curious but friendly local people. Numerous opportunities for photo taking. Have lunch in Phong Tho. After lunch continue to Tam Duong and then come up Tram Ton Pass where on a clear day you can see the Fansipan Mountain peak- Indochina’s highest peak at 3,143m above the sea. Upon arrival in Sapa, check in at your hotel. Overnight in Sapa.
Day 4: Sapa – Bac Ha – Trekking (B/L/D)
Breakfast at hotel and check out at around 9.00-10.00AM. Drive to Lao Chai Village of Black H’mong people. Take a light trek through Muong Hoa Valley with beautiful scenery to Ta Van Village of Dzay ethnic people. Another medium trek to Giang Ta Chai Village of Red Dzao people. Stop at Cau May for a picnic lunch. Take a short rest before moving to Lao Cai and then to Bac Ha. Check in at your hotel. Dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Bac Ha.
Day 5: Bac Ha – Trekking – Homestay (B/L/D)
After breakfast, start your trek from Bac Ha through the mountains and forests to Thai Giang Pho Village of Red H’mong people. Climb up the top of a mountain to see Bac Ha town from the height of 700m. Continue trekking to San Ho Village for picnic lunch. Trek down to Nam Thang Village of Nung minority and then take a short walk to Nam Ton Village (Nam Khanh). Have dinner in with a Red Zao family. Homestay in a stilt house.
Day 6: More trekking – Bac Ha – Lao Cai – Hanoi (B/L)
Breakfast with the family, then start trekking to Nam Det Village. Climb up to Nam Bo mountain and visit the village of Black Dzao people. Trek through a bamboo forest to Na Lo village to have lunch. After lunch and a short rest, drive back to Lao Cai railways station. Take the overnight train back to Hanoi. Overnight on a 4-berth A/C cabin, soft sleeper.
Day 7: Hanoi
Arrival in Hanoi in the early morning. Tour ends.
